Q: If I just want my school to participate on the Day of Compassion, what materials do I get?

You receive the Compassion booklet, and a copy of the Compassion flow.

Q: Can I get a yoga mentor for the Day of Compassion only?

You can go online to find a yoga mentor in your area.  If you are a parent, you can approach your school to see if there is any interest or if anyone on staff practises yoga.  See also Matching Schools and Yoga Mentors under ‘About’ at http://www.yoga4kidz.ca/mentors.php.  

Q: What does the Compassion package consist of?

Our Compassion package consists of the Compassion booklet, the compassion flow chart, and our yoga4kidz website at http://www.yoga4kidz.ca/resources.php.  Look for the online resource manual under ‘Resources.’

Q: Does my whole school have to sign up?

No.  You can sign up one class or a number of classes.  See Participating School Registration under ‘Register’ at http://www.yoga4kidz.ca/school-application-form.php.

Q: How do I apply to field test the materials?

When you register online you have choices and you can indicate what you would like to do at your school.

Q: What is the responsibility of a field testing school?

We are asking each class or school to use the booklets with the students and fill in a questionnaire to give us feedback.   The questionnaires are due back by February 1, 2009 giving ample time to work with the materials.  It is suggested that the teacher be familiar with yoga or utilize the services of a yoga mentor.  We are also providing an online manual and podcast to support the use of the materials.  Questions may also be emailed to info@yoga4kidz.ca or call Toll Free: 1 877 KID YOGA (543-9642) or Phone:  (604) 771-1362 within British Columbia.   

Q: Can my school/classroom visit the 24-hour relay?

Yes, we encourage students to see the relay which takes place on Saturday, November 21st and Sunday, November 22nd

Q: Can a UNICEF ambassador visit our school to educate about the campaign?

We have not included this option in our fund-raising plans.

Q: What happens if there are no yoga teachers in our area?

We are providing podcast and online support by using our yoga resource manual.  We will also be answering questions by phone or email: info@yoga4kidz.ca or call Toll Free: 1 877 KID YOGA (543-9642) or Phone:  (604) 771-1362 within British Columbia.   

Q: What if my student or my child has special needs?

The program can be adapted for use for most students.  The classroom teacher, the parent, and/or the yoga mentor may provide specific information for individual cases.

Q: What are the age restrictions?

Students from preschool to high school level are invited to participate at their schools, and adults may participate at their yoga studios.

Q: What if I have never done yoga?

No experience is necessary to begin a yoga practice.

Q: At the end of the school year, who keeps the materials?

The materials sent to the teachers stay with the teachers and the materials sent to the yoga mentors belong to the yoga mentors.

Q: Do my parents have to participate with me?

No, your parents are not required to participate with you.

Q: Are there time minimums for the school participation?

The timing and scheduling of the yoga participation is totally at the discretion of the school.  It can take place during the school day, as part of a physical education class, at lunch time or after school in the school gym or in a location deemed suitable by the school.

Q: How can I get in touch with a yoga mentor?

We will try to help you get matched with a yoga mentor if necessary.  Teachers and yoga mentors are encouraged to follow the suggestions for school/mentor matching to occur:

  1. Check in our online website to be matched with a school.
  2. A list of registered schools will be available online.  Feel free to contact the school to volunteer your services.
  3. Contact a school that you are already affiliated with.
  4. Work with the parents of the children that you know, and team up with the school the children are attending to find out if the school wants to register.

Q: If my school were to sign up, how many yoga mentors would we get?

Q: Do we do the yoga in the classroom or the gym?

This is up to the classroom teacher working on his or her own or in combination with a yoga mentor.

Q: Do we have to do the entire series of postures or can be pick and choose?

The yoga poses are presented in the booklets.  It is up to the teacher and or yoga mentor to decide which poses are appropriate to meet the needs of the students.

Q: If we home school, how can we participate?

Check your local school(s) to find out which ones are participating in the event.

Q: After the campaign has finished, can we still use the yoga mentors and materials until the end of the school year?

The use of the yoga resources and the services of the yoga mentors are totally under the discretion of the yoga mentors and teachers.

Q: If I want to see how many other schools are participating, how do I that?

Go to our website, register your school and the participating schools are listed there for you.

Q: What is the online relay and when does it take place?

Yoga4Kidz Online Relay for UNICEF brings together people who cannot participate directly at their favourite yoga studio and allows them to support Compassionate Living and raise funds for African families living with HIV/AIDS as part of UNICEF’s Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign.

This relay will go live one week before World AIDS Day, raising funds for the campaign from November 23rd through December 1.

Q: Which materials are available in French at the present time? 

The Compassion Series is available online and the online Yoga4Kidz Resource Manual will be online when the translation is completed. Online registration and portions of our web-site are also available in French

Q: What is a member and how do you become one?

A member is a member of the school staff or a yoga mentor who is supporting a school and the online registration for that school is complete.  These members can receive the yoga resources by mail.  They also can access the resources online and download them.

For Studios

Q: What is a studio yoga relay?

A studio yoga relay is a full or partial fund-raising event.  It can be 24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours, or 108 minutes in length.

Q: What if I have never done yoga before?

You can participate at a level that is comfortable for you.

Q: How many people are allowed on a team?

We recommend 8 members per team, but you are allowed as many as you wish.

Q: Do I have to be on a team?

No, you can sign up as an individual if you would like. As you are going through the registration process, you will see that you can sign-up with a specific team, sign-up as an individual, or ask to be placed on a team.

Q: How do I sign up?

You can register your team to participate by visiting www.yoga4kidz.ca, or you can participate at a studio that is planning to support the event. 

Q: What does it cost to participate?

There is a registration fee of $18.00 and this fee goes directly to UNICEF to support the African families living with HIV/AIDS.

Q: If I make an online donation to sponsor a team, will that donation reflect in the funds raised by my chosen team?

The funds collected by individuals for a particular team and donations made directly online to UNICEF, are both included in the team totals.

Q: Do I have to get sponsors to participate or can I just pay the registration fee?

You can just pay the registration fee.

Q: For the 24-hour relay at the Croatian Cultural Centre, will there be food and beverages?

Yes, food and beverages will be available.

Q: Do I have to stay for the whole 24 hours for the studio relay?

No, you can stay as long as you wish or as long as your team decides.

Q: If I want to do 24 hours of yoga, can I?

Yes, this is possible.

Q: Will there be first aid available?

Yes, there will be first aid on the site.
